Comparison of the effect of polyethylene glycol 40% and fig syrups on the treatment of chronic functional constipation in children: A randomized clinical trial

Background and aims: None of the available constipation treatments for children are completely successful. Therefore, present study aimed to evaluate effect polyethylene glycol (PEG) solution 40% fig syrup on treatment chronic in children. Methods: In this double-blind clinical trial, 120 patients with functional were selected divided into two groups. The first group received 5 mL without senna 3 times daily, second took PEG at 1 mL/kg body weight per day (the dose was adjustable according patient’s condition need). At weeks 0, 2, 4, 6, a checklist containing questions about children’s completed by researcher, data analyzed SPSS version 24. Results: Changes frequency abdominal pain fourth 6 demonstrated statistically significant differences between groups (P=0.044), it significantly lower group; however, defecation not (P=0.902).
